Water Conservation & Quality Why conserve water? We have a lake full of water, Lake Arlington, to be exact. Well, this is true, except that Lake Arlington doesn't hold enough water to take care of us and our yards. That's why there are huge pipelines running from Cedar Creek and Richland Chambers Reservoirs to Lake Arlington. We pump water uphill for about 75 miles to keep Lake Arlington full so we can drink and bathe, wash our clothes and water our lawns. The next time you complain about your water bill, remember that the water came to you long distance, which is better than not having it at all. Still, there are ways to conserve that water. Conservation Outdoors There are two main things we use water for outdoors. The first is watering our yard, and the second is washing the family vehicle. Follow the links to see the pages that address these issues in more detail. Watering the Yard | Washing the Car Conservation Indoors There's lots of things we do with water indoors. We bathe in it, wash clothes and dishes with it, flush it and brush our teeth with it. Most of these we do in one of three rooms. Follow the links to see the pages that talk about conserving water in these rooms. Remember that water leaves your home by one of two ways: either by the sanitary sewer or down and along the curb to the storm sewer. Sanitary Sewer | Storm Sewer
