New York Avenue Blackland Prairie
Location: on New York Ave about 1 mile south of IH-20 in Arlington
Volunteers and Arlington Parks & Recreation Department are removing trees and brush at this blackland prairie site, a remnant of one of America's rarest ecosystems. We'll hand-cut brush and small trees, pull it to the curb or collect litter....and always save time to notice what's new.
Please bring work gloves and your favorite hand saws, loppers, wheel barrow, shovel, pitch fork, spade fork, shovel or weeding tools, Wear appropriate clothing for the weather and for working in a natural area (long pants, long sleeves, sturdy shoes recommended). Bring sun protection, maybe a camera or binoculars.
Afterwards, if anyone's interested, groups meet near by for lunch.
This group has been approved by the Cross Timbers Master Naturalists for volunteer hours.
In case of weather, etc., RSVP is appreciated but not required: prairie@acctexas.org
